About Soundly

Soundly is an independently owned hearing health research tool. Our reviews are conducted by hearing aid wearers and audiologists. We physically review the leading hearing aids on the market for sound quality, comfort, durability, and more. Our review process starts with hands-on unboxing and days, weeks, or months of wear. We also record live sound demos using a calibrated binaural microphone (read more here). We experiment with backend fitting software for prescription products and use test box measures to measure prescriptive accuracy and flexibility. Our work is funded through reader support. Phonak Slim launched in early 2023 with a distinctly new form factor. On the inside, Slim is exactly like the rest of the Lumity Family, with strong background noise management and an industry-leading Bluetooth connection. Lumity is currently the top-selling hearing aid in the U.S.

Lumity Slim is all about design. Slim has a rebuilt portable recharging case, a single push button on each device, and several tech-forward colors.

Like the rest of the Phonak Lumity family, Slim devices allow hands-free phone calls using both Android and iPhone. The device has impressive listening tech onboard, including a motion sensor that focuses sound when seated and gives 360° listening when you walk around.

Unlike most hearing aids, Lumity Slim designates a right and left hearing aid with a 7-degree contour on each side to ensure a comfortable fit. The design leaves more room for glasses, masks, or oxygen tubes.

  • Innovative modern design
  • Top of the line customization, Bluetooth connection and rechargeable batteries
  • Enhanced background noise reduction
  • Highly water-resistant option available for active lifestyles

Pricing and Process

For Phonak Lumity Slim hearing aids, we recommend that you work with one of two networks. Both have excellent customer service and pre-negotiated pricing (shown on this page). The most significant difference between the two options is where you receive care.

Local clinic: ZipHearing represents a network of 600+ hearing clinics around the country. Their scale helps them secure lower prices at the same clinics you might find in the phonebook. All of your care takes place in a local audiology office. Click here to find a clinic

In your home: Yes Hearing brings a mobile clinic and a doctor to your home. Yes Hearing has 500+ licensed professionals in its network. Like ZipHearing, Yes has excellent customer reviews and offers lower-than-average prices due to its scale. With Yes, all of your care takes place in your home. Click here to find care

Our vetting process: We've reviewed dozens of care alternatives and recommend Yes Hearing and ZipHearing for their transparent pricing, 25%-30% savings, and easy return process.

How to Choose a Technology Level

Phonak Lumity Slim comes in several technology levels. Each device looks identical from the outside, but on the inside, each technology jump offers more sophisticated sound processing and special features. In general, wearers opt for the top technology they can reasonably afford.

There’s a new hearing aid in town, and it will make you rethink what you know about hearing health design.

Today Phonak announced a new hearing aid design called Phonak Slim. The name quickly reveals what the leading hearing brand has in store.

Phonak Slim runs on the same technology as the flagship product Phonak Lumity but with a new streamlined design meant to challenge hearing aid design convention and leave more room behind your ears (big for anyone with glasses or oxygen).

Let’s Start with a Close Up on The Product Design

While most hearing aids look virtually the same on the right and left, Phonak Slim contours to the head with a 7-degree bend that hugs your head and ears on each side.

The unique design also gets a special charging case with a slightly contoured right and left charger.

Phonak Slim comes in four two-tone colors, including: Graphite/Black, Coppy/Black, Sandalwood/Black, and Silver/Black.

Phonak Slim also includes a low-profile pushbutton for easy volume and program updates. This sets Phonak Slim apart from Signia Styletto (the only comparable design), which does not have a button.

What’s underneath this sleek new exterior?

Phonak made a point to launch Phonak Slim under the same tech platform as their flagship product, Phonak Audéo Lumity.

Lumity was released in late 2022 with a focus on background noise management. Lumity helps cut through background noise in a few ways. The first is a new operating system (the brain of the hearing aid) called AutoSense OS 5.0.

This new automatic operating system uses machine learning and scans the environment 700 times per second for real-time adjustment. Those rapid adjustments mean the hearing aid can shift modes quickly when your environment gets louder.

Lumity also adds new special features focused on background noise, StereoZoom 2.0, and SpeechSensor. StereoZoom 2.0 enhances the sound of the person in front of you over the background noise; this leads to a better understanding of speech.

Phonak Slim inherits some of Lumity’s favorite connection features, such as tap-control, hands-free calling on Android and iPhone devices, and a more stable Bluetooth classic connection.

Phonak Slim hearing aids will access the same myPhonak app as other devices.
