Soundly is an independently owned hearing health research tool. Our reviews are conducted by hearing aid wearers and audiologists. We physically review the leading hearing aids on the market for sound quality, comfort, durability, and more. Our review process starts with hands-on unboxing and days, weeks, or months of wear. We also record live sound demos using a calibrated binaural microphone (read more here). We experiment with backend fitting software for prescription products and use test box measures to measure prescriptive accuracy and flexibility. Our work is funded through reader support. Background

Linner is a fresh face in the over-the-counter hearing aid landscape, positioning itself as an ultra-low-cost option with earbud and receiver-in-canal styles. The brand is predominantly known for its AirPod-like products that not only stream Bluetooth but also offer users the capability to amplify and customize outside sounds. However, it's the less publicized Linner Mercury that got our attention.

Mercury is a sub-$300 behind-the-ear hearing aid designed for comfortable all-day wear. We recently got our hands on the Linner Nova, Linner Mars, and Linner Mercury devices for an in-depth review. Here’s what we learned.

Product Range Overview

Linner Nova

Linner Nova is a AirPod Style device with a simple magnetic recharge case and a hybrid feature set that allows streaming and hearing aid functions.

  • Bluetooth connectivity with both iPhone and Android devices.
  • Up to eight hours of battery life on a single charge.
  • Personalization available through the Linner app.
  • Features four hearing modes and 18 channels for a tailored listening experience.
  • Available with an optional TV streaming and remote mic called Linner Connect

Linner Mars

To our eye, Linner Mars is a close sibling to Linner Nova. Mars is a bit more compact in the ear canal and comes with a few additional features (like touch control). We that found Mars plugged up the ear a bit more causing some boominess.

  • Bluetooth-enabled for seamless connection with smartphones.
  • Also boasts an eight-hour battery lifespan.
  • Customization through the Linner app with five hearing modes and 18 channels.
  • Touch panel on each earbud for easy access to phone calls, music control, volume adjustments, and more.
  • Both Nova and Mars include the Linner Connect streaming device, facilitating direct TV sound streaming to earbuds and functioning as a remote microphone up to a 66-foot range.
  • Available with an optional TV streaming and remote mic called Linner Connect

App Controls for Nova and Mars

Both Nova and Mars come with access to the Linner HA hearing aid app. The app gives users control over their amplified sound settings. Including:

  • EQ adjustments and preset program selection.
  • Volume control and background noise level management.
  • An educational built-in hearing test (does not program the hearing aids)

Linner Mercury (Our Pick For Most Folks)

Despite being the least expensive product on the range, we found Linner Mercury to be the most suitable option as a true hearing-aid alternative. Mercury does not fully customize to your hearing loss (uses 3 built-in modes), but the sound-management and overall sound quality is respectable for the price point. Importantly this product is dead simple to set up with a clear off/on switch and easy to use charger.

  • Receiver-in-canal style designed for all-day comfort.
  • Lacks Bluetooth connectivity but impresses with a 20-hour battery life.
  • Three sound modes activated by a button on the device.
  • Equipped with feedback and echo prevention features.
  • Comes with various ear tip sizes to accommodate different ear shapes.

Our Take

Linner's offerings are among the most wallet-friendly on the market, though this affordability comes with compromises. The earbud-style Nova and Mars models, while innovative, are somewhat bulky for prolonged wear and resemble earbuds more than traditional hearing aids. This design might appeal to those seeking multifunctionality, yet many users may find them uncomfortable for extended use. Compare Linner Nova and Mars to AirPods Pro for streaming and amplified sound options.

The Linner Mercury stands out for its affordability and functionality, priced at $299 for a pair, making it one of the most cost-effective receiver-in-canal devices available. While it lacks the customization for specific hearing losses, its three modes offer adequate adjustability for common hearing impairments (we preferred mode 1). Consumer reviews are generally positive, with a 4.1 out of 5 rating, applauding the value for the price.

Those able to invest a bit more might consider higher-end products like the Lexie B2 powered by Bose or Sennheiser's All-Day clear for enhanced features. Nevertheless, for shoppers on a budget, the Mercury represents a viable option with passable background noise control and straightforward setup.

Pros πŸ‘
  • Highly affordable options within the Linner range.
    ‍
  • Innovative designs, particularly with the Bluetooth streaming capabilities of Nova and Mars.
    ‍
  • Mercury offers significant value with solid sound quality and effective background noise management.
Cons πŸ‘Ž
  • Nova and Mars may be too bulky for comfortable all-day wear.
    ‍
  • Lack of customization for individual hearing profiles across the product range.
    ‍
  • Mercury lacks Bluetooth connectivity, limiting its versatility compared to its siblings.
